Editorial

Editorial Policy

Becon's journalism is guided by a set of principles that place accuracy, fairness, and editorial independence above all else. These policies apply to every reporter, editor, and producer who contributes to Becon.

Editorial Independence

Becon's editorial decisions are made solely by its journalists and editors. Advertisers, sponsors, investors, and commercial partners have no influence over our news coverage, story selection, or editorial judgements. Commercial relationships are disclosed where relevant.

Accuracy and Verification

Every factual claim published by Becon is verified before publication. We use primary sources, official records, and direct reporting wherever possible. Unverified information is clearly labelled as unconfirmed, developing, or speculative.

Fairness and Balance

We seek comment from all parties named in a story before publication. When individuals or organisations are subject to criticism, they are given a reasonable opportunity to respond. We present a range of perspectives on contested issues.

Conflicts of Interest

Reporters and editors must disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationships that could affect their coverage. Staff are prohibited from covering topics where a conflict cannot be managed through disclosure and recusal.

Anonymous Sources

Becon uses anonymous sources sparingly and only when the information is significant, cannot be obtained on the record, and the source has a credible reason for confidentiality. The identity of anonymous sources is known to at least one senior editor. We explain in each story why anonymity was granted.

Corrections Policy

Becon corrects errors promptly, prominently, and transparently. Corrections are appended to the original article and listed on our Corrections page. We do not delete published content to hide errors. If you believe we have made an error, contact editors@becon.news.

AI Use Policy

Becon uses AI tools to support — not replace — journalism. AI may assist with tasks such as transcription, translation, data analysis, and research. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, verified, and approved by human editors before publication. Becon does not publish AI-generated news articles without substantial human reporting, editing, and oversight. Where AI tools have meaningfully contributed to a piece, this is disclosed to readers.

News and Opinion

News reporting and opinion content are clearly distinguished. Opinion columns, editorials, and commentary are labelled explicitly. Opinion writers do not speak for Becon editorially and their views are their own.
